about

There She Blows! was and is most definitely 1800s Sea Monster's finest moment (In terms of recordings.) It is also the full-band debut of 1800s Sea Monster (Released September 2006.)

These eleven tracks were written and recorded in the summer of 2007 by the classic 1800s Sea Monster lineup of Jakob Battick (Vocals, rhythm guitar), Tim Cunningham (Lead guitar), Pat Cunningham (Drums), and Ryan Higgins (Bass, vocals.) The recording sessions were made direct to KORG four-track via four live microphones on the first floor of a creaky old house in Brewer, ME (Harlow Street, if I'm remembering that right.) We had spent all of the summer previous to the sessions practicing upstairs but had to move downstairs as the floorboards were reaching the point of no return from all of our jumping and stomping. In the process of recording There She Blows at least one incredibly awkward silent-room angry cassette-recorder-smashing-to-pieces incident occurred.

This album saw two physical releases. The first was an independently produced and issued edition of about 50 copies on CD-R in jewel cases with full color three panel artwork. The second issue was released via Ryan Fairfield's MILKWEED RECORDS label (Before it became primarily a metal/black metal/doom label) in an edition of 50 copies in rice paper sleeves with two panel color artwork and a lyric insert. The disc was available through the Bangor Bullmoose store for around $3-6 and sold out, but apparently made such little money that Bullmoose never felt like contacting us about giving us a cut of the profits. To this day the finances of that tiny deal remain an absolute mystery to us.

This album was followed by the EP 'P.S. Do You Ever Wish You Could Breathe Underwater?' in January of 2007. All gigs from the months of August 2006 to December of 2006 featured setlists made primarily and almost entirely of these songs.
